Excessive Gas – Why Excessive and Foul Flatus Occur

It’s essential for people to pass gas several times a day.  This is considered to be healthy especially if they can produce half-liter of gas but this can be different depending on the amount of food taken in by the body.

There are instances where people release a lot of gas and experience excessive farting.  One scenario is when their bodies don’t absorb the food well due to several medical disorders.  Examples of these disorders are diverticulosis, pancreatic problems, and even short bowel syndrome.

The most common cause of gas is fiber and starch that have not been totally digested by the digestive system.  These food components will undergo fermentation in the intestine and will produce different types of gases like methane and carbon dioxide.  Generally, the gas produced in the body is odorless however they come out with foul smells after passing the stuck wastes on intestinal walls or also known as mucoid plaque.

The smell of farts can be different from each other due to components.  For example, there are some flatuses that smell like rotten eggs.  The main component cause this smell is hydrogen sulphide.  The rotten vegetable smell is produced from methanethiol.  There are other components that can make fart acquire a sort of sweel smell.

Food that cause of smelly fart

These components that produce the smell of farts come from different food so you may want to know the type of food that can release smelly gas like the following.

  • Eggs and cauliflower are among the food that can give smelly farts.  There are people who may say that beans is among these food but the truth is that it can also produce a large amount of gas but it’s not really that smelly.
  • Giardiasis is a condition that can cause the smelliest fart and diarrhea.  This condition is an infection caused by a parasite called Giardia.  This infection can cause the digestive system to prevent fat absorption at the upper intestine.  It will instead pass down the colon and serve as food for the bacteria.  The fats that are rotting in the body will produce the smell strong enough to cause nausea.

Gas producing food

Aside from the food that produce smelly fart, there are also several food that will make people produce excessive mount of gas.  The following are some of the food that can make you release gas more than the usual

  • Milk is important for the body but it can also cause smelly fart without proper absorption.  Milk has lactose that can only be digested by bacteria through lactase enzyme.  If lactose is not digested well, they will cause the dairy product to be improperly digested and become food for yeast and other bad bacteria.  It will also decompose and produce gas.  People with low level of lactase production in the body through bacteria experience lactose intolerance.  This is the condition where the digestive system cannot digest the dairy product well and may cause stomach cramping and gas production.
  • High fiber food such as beans can produce more gas than the usual.  Exampesl of these beans are lima beans, soy beans, pinto beans and others.  If you want to eat this meal without experiencing too much gas release, you can soak them in hot water for some time before cooking.
  • Aside from beans, other high fiber food like bagels and wheat germ will cause you to have more gas than the usual.

These are some of the food that will make you experience high flatulence and the whole mechanism of why fart can have foul smell.  This will help you avoid these food or do something to prevent smelly fart from happening.
